The Camp committee develops the
program with a good balance of
sport competition and games,
including meaningful lectures and
counseling sessions.
During Camp hearing parents learn
basic words in sign language.
Later, often with an expression of
appreciation parents inform that
their child's behavior and
relationship improved.
One request among many is
counseling in relation to the hearing
parent's challenge with their deaf
child's behavior.
Often the counseling session reveals
that the root of the problem is not
the child but the parent's inability to
communicate in the language the
child can understand and respond to.
In a setting far away from the norm of daily life, this service attends to the mental and physical needs of deaf campers through recreational therapy and counseling.
